On the first evening, the film festival draws attention to the still little-known genocide of the European Sinti and Roma which claimed up to 500,000 victims. It opens with two animated short films produced by RomaTrial in collaboration with the Foundation Memorial, which tell of the lives of the German Sintizza Zilli Reichmann (*1924) and the Dutch Sinto Zoni Weisz (*1937). The historian Jana Mechelhoff-Herezi will be interviewing Zoni Weisz after the film’s screening. He lost his parents and siblings during National Socialism.
