LOCAL HEROES – WORLD TALENTS is a fascinating insight into the life and work of many Romani cult stars from Macedonia. The singers Esma Redžepova and Vaska Jankovska (the Erdelezi song from the film TIME OF THE GYPSIES), the actor Bajram Severdžan (BLACK CAT, WHITE CAT), or the screenwriter and founder of the Romani theatre “PRALIPE” Rahim Burhan – all born in one of the oldest Roma neighborhood in the Balkans called Topaana. During very personal interviews with Zoran Dimov, owner of one of the first ever Romani media TV BTR, they look back on their lives, careers, and collaborations with artists like Emir Kusturica or Goran Bregović.

Aydin Islami was born in 1993 in Skopje. Since 2012, he studies Film and TV Directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Skopje under professor Antonio Mitikeski. Before directing LOCAL HEROES – WORLD TALENTS, he made two short documentaries (an autobiographical one and one called PUA), as well as a short fiction film titled, A PICKUP ARTIST.
